Distance Learning Update - New Governor Mandates

Posted by Arthur Congo on July 18, 2020 in General News

Earlier this afternoon Governor Newsom issued new mandates and guidelines for school reopenings. The primary indicator of whether or not a school can resume in-person learning in the fall is if the school/district resides in a county on the state’s monitoring list for rising Coronavirus infections.

Currently, all three of our campuses are located in counties on the state monitoring list: Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties. We must comply with the Governor’s new order and begin the school year continuing our Distance Learning model from the spring.

While we had initially hoped for students to return to the classroom in a hybrid model that prioritized student and staff safety as well as flexibility for families, we understand that we live in a different world than we did even a week ago. Our teachers and administrators have already worked diligently to improve upon our Distance Learning model in order to provide students and families with the high-quality education they have come to expect from Scholarship Prep. We plan to begin distributing detailed information to families about our new fall plans in the coming days.

Though we will be starting the school year in a Distance Learning format, our school teams will continue to prepare our facilities and instructional programs for a hybrid model once students are able to return for in-person instruction. Once a school reopens, it must continue to meet new strict criteria to continue in-person learning. Therefore, ensuring our site safety protocols align with county and state public health recommendations for students to return to campus will continue to be a priority.

As an educational institution, we will continue to do what we can within these new guidelines to provide families with services and resources they need, rely on, and expect out of their school. We will continue communicating with you throughout the summer as additional information and details are available. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we adjust to these ever-changing conditions to keep students and employees safe and emerge from this pandemic stronger than ever.

Thank you all for your continued trust. Stay safe.
